Meet the Summer 2008 ANRP Interns!

Cathrine Alsop
Major: Animal Science
House Committee on Agriculture, Majority

Catherine Alsop is the daughter of Elizabeth Hubert and Dr. Ernest "Kit" Alsop.  She is a junior animal science major. In her time out of the classroom, Catherine plays for the nationally ranked Texas A&M Women's Rugby Team and acts as the Vice President of Programs for the College of Agriculture and Life Science Student Council.  Most summers she coaches a local high school cheerleading squad and works for the King Ranch, but this summer, she has the unbelievable opportunity to work for the House Committee on Agriculture through the Agriculture and Natural Resources Policy Internship Program.  Catherine would like to thank her family, boyfriend, friends, and especially the scholarship donors, and ANRP Program itself for making this opportunity possible! 

 

Whitney Baggett

Major: Agribusiness
Congressman John Carter

Whitney Baggett is a senior agribusiness major from Ft. Worth, Texas. She is scheduled to graduate December of 2008 and upon graduation plans on attending a law school in Texas. She is a member of the Pi Beta Phi sorority and enjoys socializing with friends and family in her spare time. She will spend this summer in DC interning in the office of Congressman John Carter.

Troy Berthold
Major: Agricultural Leadership and Development
Congressman Rubén Hinojosa


Troy Berthold is a senior from Beeville, Texas. He will be graduating this August with a degree in agricultural leadership and development. As the Vise President of the Texas A&M Trap & Skeet team, Troy was also involved in several different campus activities, including Big Event. While in Washington, D.C., he will be interning in the office of the Honorable Rubén Hinojosa. Troy plans to attend graduate school in Water Management upon returning to Texas A&M. 


Amy Birdwell
Major: Agribusiness
Congressman Charles Gonzalez

Amy Birdwell was born and raised in San Antonio, TX.  She is majoring in Agribusiness and will be graduating in May 2009. This summer Amy will be working for Congressman Charles Gonzalez.  During her free time on campus, she serves as an executive for the student government organization, Texas Aggies Making Changes.

Brittany Brown
Major: Food Science and Technology
Congressman Pete Sessions

Brittany Brown is from Humble, Texas and is a recent graduate of Texas A&M University with a degree in Food Science and Technology with a minor in Business Administration. While in Washington, D.C. she will be working with Congressman Pete Sessions and is very excited about the opportunity to learn more about the government and public policy.

Justin Chambers
Major: Animal Science
National Association of State Departments of Agriculture

Justin Chambers is a senior Animal Science major from Taylor, TX.  He is excited about working and learning in Washington DC.  He has always been fascinated by the mechanism behind agricultural legislation and is looking forward to learning more about it while working in the NASDA office this summer.  While at Texas A&M, Justin was involved in the Residence Hall Association, serving as president of McInnis Hall.  He worked for the Department of Ecosystem Science and Management and the TAES Animal Physiology Lab.  He is also very involved in his local church, Texas Avenue Baptist.  He plans to pursue a career in veterinary pharmaceuticals upon graduation in December 2008.

Jennifer Coats
Major: Agricultural Communications
Congressman Michael McCaul

Jennifer Coats is a senior Agricultural Communication and Journalism major from Austin, Texas.  She has worked as the communications assistant at the MSC Forsyth Center Galleries and has been a member and officer of the Texas A&M Women's Chorus. She will be graduating in May 2008 and plans to attend graduate school while working in Austin.

Keith Franklin
Major: Agribusiness
Congressman Henry Cuellar

Keith Franklin is a junior agribusiness major in the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences.  This summer, he will be working for the Honorable Henry Cuellar of District 28, Keith’s hometown representative.  He is very interested to work with the people who make decisions that affect where he is from.  While most of Keith’s time may be spent sorting mail, making coffee, and answering the telephone, he hopes to be able to assist in floor speech or letter writing and maybe help with some agricultural policy research.  Keith is very excited about the opportunity to live and work in the nation’s Capital and is very grateful to all the people that made it possible for him to do so.

Ryan Hohensee
Major: Poultry Science
Congressman Keven Brady

Ryan Marie Hohensee has grown up in and around Houston her whole life.  She is currently a junior poultry science major at Texas A&M University and plans to graduate in May 2009. This summer Ryan will be interning in Washington, D.C. with a local Texan, Congressman Kevin Brady! She is very excited about this experience and can't wait to start her journey.

Daniel Rich
Major: Agricultural Economics
Congressman Louie Gohmert

Daniel Rich is a senior agricultural economics major from Lufkin, Texas who will graduate in December 2008.  He is a member of Beta Theta Pi Fraternity and is currently the treasurer of the FIRE Club (Finance, Insurance, and Real Estate Club).  Daniel enjoys hunting, fishing, and traveling.  This summer Daniel will be interning for Congressman Louie Gohmert of the 1st District of Texas.

Conrad Srp
Major: Agricultural Economics
Congressman Jeb Hensarling

Conrad Srp is a senior agricultural economics major doing the real estate and finance option. He will be working for Congressman Jeb Hensarling of Texas’ 5th District. He knows that this experience is a once in a lifetime opportunity and is extremely excited about learning more about the government and public policy.  After graduation Conrad plans to attend law school and pursue a career in the legal realm of real estate.

 

Justin Turner
Major: Agricultural Leadership and Development
House Committee on Agriculture, Minority

Justin Turner is a junior agricultural leadership and development major from Louise, Texas.  He will be working for the minority side of the House Committee on Agriculture. 

Kacey VanDeaver
Major: Agricultural Economics
House Judiciary Committee

Kacey VanDeaver is a junior from Bogata, Texas and is working for the House Judiciary Committee. She is pursuing a degree in agricultural economics with minors in communication and economics. Having been a volunteer and team leader for Breakaway Ministries, as well as involved in multiple other campus activities, this opportunity to serve in a Congressional office provides a unique chance to grow and learn. She is excited to apply the knowledge gained in Washington to her fall law school applications and future career goals.

Tamara Webb
Major: Agriculture Communications
Congressman Steve Pearce

Tamara Webb is an agricultural communications and journalism major, class of 2008, and will be graduating with a certificate in International Trade and Agriculture. Her emphasis is print communications and international agriculture development.  She is a proud second-generation Aggie from Kingsville, TX.  Tamara is involved in several on-campus organizations including: Agricultural Communicators of Tomorrow, Wiley Lecture Series and the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences Student Council. Upon graduation in December, she plans on studying abroad or beginning a master's degree in International Affairs from the Bush School at Texas A&M.  Tamara is excited to be in Washington and to experience working on Capitol Hill!

Logan West
Major: Agribusiness
USDA - Office of Congresssional Relations

Logan West grew up in the west Texas town of Snyder, a small but once booming community centered on oil, cattle, and cotton farming.  After graduating high school in 2005, he served as the Texas FFA president for a year, touring the state and speaking to students about the value of agriculture.  Upon arriving at Texas A&M in the fall of 2006, Logan decided to major in animal science, but soon focused his studies instead on agribusiness.  This summer, Logan will be interning in the USDA Congressional Relations Office.  He hopes that this experience will strengthen him as an Aggie, a Texan, and an American.  To his family, classmates, and friends, Logan will keep you in his prayers and looks forward to seeing everyone upon his return.
