The Agricultural and Natural Resources Internship (ANRP) Program has helped more than 550 Aggies spend the spring, summer or fall semester living and working in Washington, D.C. and in the Texas legislature in Austin every two years.

No matter what your ultimate career goal, be it teaching, business, law, medical school or politics, an ANRP Internship will broaden your horizons and build a network that will help you with whatever you choose to do.

  • All internships are PAID POSITIONS , which is very unusual in politics and especially in Washington, D.C.!

  • Each intern is paid a minimum of $500 per month by their employing office and becomes a part of the full-time staff.

  • All interns receive a $2,500 housing scholarship which covers the cost of your internship semester's housing and bills (excluding cable & phone).

  • In addition, most students are also eligible for financial aid and maintain health and car insurance due to the full-time status waiver. Check with your financial aid advisor or the program staff for more information.

U.S. House of RepresentativesPotential Internships

Nearly all of our students will serve as Congressional interns for members of the US House of Representatives. Other possible internships include the House Committee on Agriculture and the National Association of State Departments of Agriculture (NASDA). ANRP Interns are selected by the individual offices during the final interview process.

Gain experience, but stay on track for graduation!

  • All ANRP interns are considered FULL-TIME, even though you'll take less than 12 hours. You are not subject to the 15 hour rule below 12 hours, so you'll only pay for the hours you take.

  • Depending on your major and department, most interns earn from 1-6 hours of credit for your internship.

  • Typically, students write research papers and complete work portfolios to attain course credit. Others complete marketing projects or presentations.

• There is an on-site residential advisor (a former intern and DC professional) to help you with your transition to Washington and help in the event of emergencies.

  • ANRP Interns will work on a wide-variety of public policy issues with one common thread--they all affect the our nation in a profound way. As an ANRP intern, you will have the opportunity to learn more about issues that you are interested in--from education to genetics to governmental nutritional standards.

  • ANRP interns make a difference! As an intern, you will learn the policy process from the ground up and learn how our government functions on a daily basis. From working with constituents to lobbying for legislation, ANRP interns become a part of the process that shapes our nation.

I Don't Know everything about politics...

Starting a new job, moving across the country and learning the ropes can be tough--the ANRP Program helps you navigate this road!

  • Before leaving campus, students have multiple mixers to meet one another, meet with the program director and get lots of help getting ready for their internship, including travel and living advice.

  • Students complete a training session with the program director, former interns, congressional staffers and other speakers. This session, in addition to other meetings, prepares students to live and work in D.C.

  • Once in Washington, students participate in special events with speakers and tours. They also meet regularly and the residential advisor and program director checks-in with the interns throughout the semester to help ensure a good experience.

  • There is an outstanding network of resources and contact for you to make the most of your internship semester. Former ANRP interns, the National Capitol A&M Club, the Texas State Society and many others are ready and willing to help interns! Meet some of these folks here.
